Your wedding day is likely to be the most photographed day of your life. In years to come, you’ll pull out old photo albums with your grandkids, showing them pictures of you looking fresh-faced and blissful.
Chances are, there will be a good number of photos of your hands too. Pictures of the ring, pictures of you signing your marriage contract, pictures of you holding your partner’s face while you kiss them … think about it – your hands will be front and centre. So while the dress, the hair and the makeup are obvs important – don’t forget that your nails are too!
There are so many ways to wear your nails on your wedding day that can show off different aspects of your personality. Most brides wear white dresses, and while the classic white wedding dress always looks so special … it does restrict your choices in showing off who you are. And while well-manicured naked nails or a classic nude will always look beautiful and timeless, there are so many ways to put a spin on your look and show your individuality with your manicure!
Be as classic or creative as you want!
Classy wedding nails are a firm favourite, with many brides opting for classic nude tones like pink-based nudes or taupe-based nudes. Check out our classic bridal collection here. But there are no rules here! Recently we’ve been seeing brides get more experimental with their nails, incorporating bold colours and intricate nail art to personalise their look.
Whether you’re doing your nails at home or going to a salon, it’s usually recommended to get them done 1-2 days before the wedding, so that they won’t chip or break. It’s also recommended to try out the exact shape, length and colour you’re thinking of in advance of the big day, so you know for sure that you’re happy with them!
If you’re a traditional blushing bride, softer, more romantic shapes will work for you, like squoval, round, oval, and almond. If you’re a badass bride who wants some edge to your look, you can be more experimental and go for square, ballerina or stiletto shapes.
Keep in mind that nails with sharp edges can potentially snag on material if you’re not careful – which is not ideal if you’re wearing delicate fabrics like silk or lace. And if your dress has intricate button-loop fastenings, you might want to enlist the help of a short-nailed friend to help you into your dress!
